(laughter.) The old judicial circuit 'about Springfield, where he used to practice law, where he called everybody by their first name, and everybody loved to hear him talk, did much for him in many ways. But the eminent jurists who surround those who are with us tonight will agree with me that a man who has not the foresight to exact a retainer, nor the energy to collect a fee after he has earned it, such a man, whatever else may be said of him, is not by nature cut out for a lawyer.
